The True Meaning Of Family - 1744 Words

The True Meaning of Family In â€Å"For my Mother,† Dr. Jami Huntsinger writes about how her mother lives with Alzheimer’s disease and how her father never gave up on his wife. In this essay, Huntsinger discusses the strong relationship her mother and father shared during this hard time in their lives. Even though Huntsinger’s mother was physically unable speak, she was still able to have full conversations with her loved ones. Huntsinger stated, â€Å"She would answer, and I would try to answer with â€Å"Really?† Or â€Å"No, you’re kidding me, â€Å"or â€Å"That’s interesting,† all based on patterns of soft or hard sounds.†. All of her doctors wanted to put her on medication, but her husband told them no, that would have been the easy way out and Mr. Huntsinger†¦show more content†¦Referring back to Dr. Huntsinger’s paper about her mother and father she proves that being a family is more than â€Å"a basic unit consisting of parents and their children,† it is being there for one another no matter the circumstances. Loving, supporting and most importantly showing a commitment towards each other. When two people get married and they say the words ‘I do’ they are committed in marriage, which means that they are together as one: they are loyal, truthful, and loving to one another. When a person is committed to either a partner or a family they will do anything for them. Referring back to Dr. Huntsinger’s story it is stated that â€Å"Dad tried endlessly to get the courts to release her, but it never happened. In the end, my father just gave up and chose instead to visit her every day,† He was committed to staying by her side no matter where she was. Mr. Huntsinger never seemed to complain when he would drive three hundred miles each day just to see her. He dedicated his life to always loving his wife and being a part of her life no matter where she was. He was going to be with her in any way he could be. One of the crucial parts to keep their relationship going long and strong until the day she died was spending time together.
